 | Guarino Hits a Homerun All the Way to Centre College! It’s the American dream. Apple pie and baseball. Not too sure about the apple pie, but there’s no doubt, Nick Guarino is living the dream—and this one is up close and personal.
Guarino, 18, a graduating senior at Hickory High, has been accepted to Centre College in Danville, Kentucky where he will play baseball and study pre-med (orthopedics). Click link... |
 | Wardrick Signs to Play Basketball for CVCC! Chauncey “C.J.” Wardrick, Jr., 18, a graduating senior from Hickory High School, has signed to play basketball for Catawba Valley Community College.

 | FREE Athletic Physicals on Tuesday, May 28th, 5:30 PM Schedule: Tuesday at 5:30 p.m., HHS athletic complex. The physicals are FREE! The only requirement is that the student bring the physical form signed by a parent/guardian to the physical. Click link for the form/print out.
All Hickory High athletes are encouraged to get a physical now. All athletes per NCHSAA rules (new rule) must have a current physical to participate in ANY summer activities if they are representing HHS.

 | Summer School Information--HHS and HCAM Summer School is for HHS and HCAM students and will take place on the campus of Hickory High. Academic courses will be offered for credit recovery only. Each session is four weeks in length and will operate on the following calendar: Session One – June 3-27; Session Two – July 9-August 1. The attached letter (click link) provides some details. Be sure to visit the HHS office or the HCAM office by Friday, May 30th -- to pick up additional documents. |

 | Grandview Lady Eagles WIN County Soccer Championship! Way to go, Grandview Lady Eagles! Coached by Howard Belvin, the Grandview girls' soccer team recently won the Catawba County Middle Schools Girls' Soccer Championship. In the final game, they defeated Northview 1-0. The Lady Eagles finished the season with a record of 13 wins and one loss. The offense scored 50 goals and the defense only allowed 8 goals in 14 games.  | Musical Passion Opens Doors for Future While some kids might choose to spend free time with computer games, texting friends or perhaps tossing a ball, Olivia Pruitt and Santiago Vazquez choose to practice their strings—that is, the viola and violin—respectively. And their passion is paying off.
Pruitt, 17, a senior at Hickory High, has been accepted to the Honors College at UNC-Greensboro where she plans to major in music education and English, with a minor in French.
Vazquez, 15, who is finishing up his sophomore year at Hickory High, performs every chance he gets and one day, he plans to audition for the Juilliard School of Music.

 | 2013 “Student of the Year” Selected at Hickory High! Kyree Connor, 19, says that he has been blessed to have great role models in his life. From family to teachers—he believes that being awarded the 2013 Student of the Year for Hickory High School happened due to the positive influences from others.
But Connor seems to be able to make good choices on his own, as well. A young man of integrity who belongs to the “No Excuses” organization at Hickory High, Connor finds a way to smile through the challenges of life.
